Spring Ahead

It’s been a minute huh?? Yikes I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not a blogger πŸ˜‚I get so excited to try all these fun patterns, take notes as I go then stare at them once they’re done and admire my work. Blogging mindset gone 🀦🏻‍♀️ But here I am now...better late than never amiright?
I went off track this round and didn’t follow a Jess OklaRoots tutorial and tried out the Dayna Pack from LindsHandmade over on Etsy. I had seen this bag made several times in different groups and thought it was a really sophisticated version of a Fanny pack. Add to cart....
Before we really get into it, I just have to say that all of the patterns from LindsHandmade are so incredibly written! As a still pretty newbie bag maker, the thought of going through a pattern without the virtual help of my OklaRoots YouTube crutch is usually too much and I don’t even attempt it (yet). But since I had made the H2O To Go which is also by LHM, I knew I would be able to do just fine flying solo here.
This pattern has very minimal pieces to cut which is always a plus in my book! I used this Harry Potter inspired cotton Lycra from Fabricmail.com (lined with SF101- we don’t want stretching here!) and a waterproof canvas for the lacking and lining. WPC is amazing because it helps give bags a tad more structure, doesn’t need any interfacing and of course, it’s waterproof which may not seem like a big deal but if your kids are anything like mine (or you’re simply a klutz also like me) WPC is always just a safe choice.

This bag comes together super quick- like I lollygaged around an extra hour in the morning and still had 3 hours to spare before I had to pick my kids up from school.
I sewed this all on my domestic Viking Opal 670 with a microtex 80/12 needle and had zero problems! What I think I like most about this version of a butt satchel is that it uses swivel hooks and an adjustable slider instead of the typical clasps you’d normally see here. It’s definitely more polished in my opinion. And I love how you can easily wear it as a crossbody and it’s still cute!
The only thing I wasn’t too keen on, was when topstitching the side panels, you sew through the sides AND the back panel so you will see those stitches in the finished bag. If I had read ahead (you’re supposed to-do that!) and seen that I would’ve chosen a black thread to match my back panel instead of the white I went with. Still not a huge deal and I’ll know for next time.
Oh!! Also, this was the very first project I got to use my new labels on!! They are from Inked Papers and I lurrrrve them so much! 😍
Now to get my OklaRoots fix, set the clocks ahead one hour (I love more daylight and signs of warmer days!!) and say goodnight to this beautiful Saturday!
